Leadership transition signals continued investment in technology and independent retailer success
Boulder, CO — Workstand, the leading provider of digital commerce and marketing solutions for independent bicycle retailers, today announced that David Wert has been named President. Wert succeeds Ryan Atkinson, who departs after two decades of leadership that helped shape the modern era of bike-shop retail.
A veteran of the cycling and retail industries, Wert has been part of Workstand’s leadership team since 2013 after owning bike shops in Michigan and Colorado. His hands-on IBD experience, family history in the retail service industry, and decade shaping Workstand’s growth give him unique insight into the needs of independent retailers.
“Independent bike shops are the heart of this industry,” says Wert. “Our role is to give them the digital tools, data, and support they need to compete and grow in a rapidly changing market.”
Under Wert’s leadership, Workstand is expanding both its development and product organizations, adding new team members and advancing platform capabilities that enhance ecommerce, POS, and supplier integrations. The company’s Merchant Services department—which delivers marketing and local-presence solutions for retailers—is also growing, with new programs designed to help shops adapt to emerging AI technologies and evolving consumer behavior.
Departing president Ryan Atkinson, who co-founded Harvest Retail Marketing before merging with SmartEtailing, now Workstand, leaves to take a personal sabbatical after more than 30 years in the cycling industry.
“Ryan built a company that truly serves the retailer community,” Wert said. “We’re honored to continue that momentum while pushing toward what’s next.”
With new leadership and expanded teams, Workstand is focused on innovation and partnerships designed to help IBDs thrive in a digital-first future.
